Year 4 Boys Relay team makes Wellington Zone.

Hampton Hill School Year 4 boys relay team has made Wellington Zone. The team consists of Katuta and Kaia from our class. Well done, lads!

Simone Goes to Picton

Well known Room 7 identity Simone went to Picton last weekend. Simone's stepmum had won a prize which was a trip to Picton. An enjoyable time was had by all.

Madison Wins Gymnastics Trophy

Mwila Tables Champ Again.

Katuta Mwila was Room 7 tables champ again. He does have tough competition from Sam, Jahde, Phoenix and DJ. These students have honed their basic facts knowledge to such a high standard that they are achieving 100% almost every test. It has got to the stage where I have to time them and give the award to the fastest. Great!

BANANA MAN

Banana Man! He is a mighty super hero. He fights the evil Heavy Mob with his super dooper Banana powers. When he is not Banana Man he is a quiet schoolboy named Eric. When he is Eric he dresses normally but when he is Banana Man he wears a cape and a mask and he is big and strong and muscly. His costume is blue with a bright yellow banana on the chest.

The cast of the play A Whale of a Time in the Pool. This play was performed to Room 3 as part of our Inquiry Unit on Performance. The cast is: Alec. Madison,Jahde, Thomas, Aimee, DJ, Mr Surrich and the Whale (really Simone).

NZSO _ A Review.

On Thursday 26th August, tons of prancing children filled three buses. We were going to te Papa to see the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra as part of our inquiry learning on Performances.

We saw violins, violas and a cello first. Later they were joined by french horns, a clarinet and a double bass.

The musicians intriduced their instruments. It was interesting because I liked how the instruments worked and the music that was played.

I like the part where all the instruments played together.

There was one thing I didn't like and that was that we had to sit on the floor. It was uncomfortable.

I liked the piece of music that was played at the end of the performance. It was really peaceful.

Overall, a terrific opportunity to be introduced to different instruments of the orchestra.

My Pirate

Captain Blackbeard has ten guns and his teeth are greesy. He has black boots. His hair is black and his breath smells. his men fought hard some were stil alive and some died in the war. But Captain Blackbeard had his head chopped off.

Pirate Bart is a very mean bossy pirate.He has long black hair and always keeps it knotted.Pirate Bart has disguting crooked teeth and when you smell his breath you can smell rotten eggs.He wears a big silver belt and a black and white top that is shredded and black pants.On his head he wears a big Captain hat.Every day when he see's a Pirate ship,his ship attacks their ship and steals all the precious gold and jewels.One day his head got chopped of.Pirate Bart is a very mean bossy deadly pirate.

A Place about Vung Tau

The town of Vung tau is lovely.There is a beautiful beach with sparling white sand.There are thousands of people around the world who want to swim in the awesome sea.When you are sick of the sun you can go to the shop and buy some yummy ice cream.In Vung Tau there are gift shops where you buy amazing stuff.You can eat yummy seafood like lobster with vegatable and anything you want to eat lobster with and drink red or white wine and beer.Vung Tau have nice hotel and motel.The hotel is created like you are outside not inside your room,the room is like you are in the ocean with blue sparling dolphins and friendly whales and more friendly colourful sea animals.The service will alway clean your room they do your bed.The service is very nice.Vung Tau is alway my favourite beach.

Pirate Dan is a very intresting pirate.He has heaps of beads in his hair and he has
a scar under his left eye.Dan uses two weapons a knife and a gun.Dan wears black boots, a black and red bandana and he also has a big jacket.Dan has an earring on his right ear.He likes his black eye patch on his left eye.He has red, green, orange and yellow parrot and Dan likes it chirping on his shoulder.

The haunted mansion

The mansion was old and desolate.
The windows were smashed and the wood had rotted.
The gold had mould all over it.
The marble was cracked.
Ghosts swarmed around going straight through walls.SPOOKY!
A skeleton was walking slowly going up and down the cracked staircase.

Awards

Awards for the week ending Friday 20th August went to Aliyah for using De Bono's Thinking hat skills, Alec Walker for imrpoved reading and spelling, Andrew Scott-Hill for much improved behaviour and Sam Davies was Tables Champ with 100%.

The new house

The new house was packed. It's new paint brightly shone at midday. The new windows reflected on the fence like a superhero's laser. People made comments about the flash sparkly curtins inside the house. It looked like it was only just built despite it's past. The tiles on the roof refleced brightly as if they were polished every week.

A Rock Star

The rock star wears a funky suit and a crazy hat and carries a stylish electric guitar.
He sings so loud into his coloured microphone.
He wears rocking glasses and jazzy shoes.
On his neck is a necklace decorated with shiny drums.
When the music rocks, he shakes his spiky red and black hair.
On his drums he has black squares and blue circles.
When he is on stage, he glows in the bright, dazzling lights.

The Gymnast

She was slim and flexible and dressed in a blue and white leotards with long sleeves. She handled a beautiful rainbow ribbon with dexterity and did a few nervous wobbles as she waved her rainbow ribbon.
She could do a summersault and then do a split leap any second now. Her legs and arms nervorsly wobbled as she waved the ribbon. She leapt like a tiger jumping on prey. She summersaulted like a bubble floating away. Her leotard was missing nine blue and white sparkles.

Awards for week ending 25th June

Katuta got three awards this week. He was tables champ again with a 100% effort.
He also got an award for impressive gymnastic ability and got a birthday award as well. Khanh got an award for writing a terrific letter about the school.

Aj Leaves

Aj left on Friday. He is going to his new school at Plateau in Upper Hutt. We wish him good luck.

My School

I like being a student at Hampton Hill School because we have three breaks a day and that gives me a chance to play.

One thing I really enjoy about my school is that there are lots of sports to play. Some sports I really enjoy are Dodgeball, T-ball and Basketball.

Another thing about my school that appeals to me are the nice teachers, like Mr Surrich and Mrs Brieseman

At Hampton Hill School we do heaps of fun things. In Room 7 we do lots of word games to help us build our vocabulary.

If there wa one thing I could change about my school, it would be o get rid of the bullies because they make the school unpleasant for other people.

Hampton Hill school is my school. It is the best.

The Room 7 awards for the week ending 18th June went to Simone for using alternative addition strategies to problem solve, Zion for reading considerately with his buddy from Room 4 and Aimee got the Room 7 Oscar for best Drama performance. Katuta got the Tables Champion award for the forth week in a row.

Katuta Mwila has been tables champ for three weeks in a row. Today he was proclaimed tables champ again with a 100% effort. Katuta you STAR!

The Thing From Outer Space

People talk about aliens and how they eat you,what am I saying that's the wrong book.

People talk about aliens and how they do your homework for you. But you have to get it cheese,so now go to the supermarket. they like tasty cheese. So make the homework hard, I'm talking to you, teachers!

The homework aliens are green with a big eye, three arms and one leg. They live in a big galaxy. light years away from out galaxy. Thier beds are made by dead cats. They clean their hands with dirty water.

I love going to their galaxy to get my homework done.

By the way, they live on a sun, bigger tan our sun, so bring ice and more ice.

Homework Woes

Again I am disappointed by the number of students who aren't doing their homework or who aren't submitting it. The same goes for home reading.

Awards for the week ending 23/4/2010

Awards for this week went to Jahde Karauna for showing good stamina during Physical Education, Aliyah Wong for producing homework of a high standard, and Alec Walker for success with his concentration skills. Madison Wilson was the Room 7 Tables Master for this week.

Term 2

With term 2 already into it's second week I would like to convey my disappointment about the number of children in Room 7 who are not handing in homework or homereading. I set homework to help children with spelling and areas of mathematics that they need to strengthen. Regular reading is essential for children to develop their literary skills

My Favourite Place

My favourite place is my Grandma's place.

In my Grandma's flowery room there is a television, a cute dinosuar picture and an old wedding photo.

When I am in her bedroom I like to look at her photo album and the pictures of when she was a child.

She let's me use her old clothes and shoes for dress-ups.

Grandma bakes yummy apricot cake and I love it.

She lives on Levin with Grandpa and a fluffy cat.

It takes a long time in the car to get to Levin but it is fun when I get there.

Part of the success criteria for this story was to use adjectives to describe the favourite place and you can see Aimee has done this.

The next piece of writing is by Zion Bidois, also about his favourite place.

My Favourite Place

My favourite place is the beach. I like to go there in the hot weather.

When I get to the beach I swim in the cold water or I lie on my back on the warm sand.

The beach is fun and I make sand castles.

Awards

We only had one award last week and it went to Zion Bidois for a great "My Favourite Place" story. Well done, Zion.

Homework and Home Reading

Homework and home reading have been disappointing with a number of children not completing either. Children have spelling and maths homework every week. Children are encouraged to read at least 4 nights a week for about 15 minutes.

Awards

Again, homework for this week was disappointing. Students get spelling and basic facts homework every week.

This weeks award winners are: Jahde for great comprehension answers, Madison also for very good comprehension answers and Aj for a positive attitude to his work.

Only a few students did their home reading last week. This was very disappointing. I hope to see a big improvement this week.

Homework

Homework has started in earnest. Homework is set every week in Room 7. Students are also expected to do their home reading every week.
